Wellness and health integrations will underpin the £20 million Sheerness regeneration scheme.

Sport Parks and Leisure

Fitness and leisure facilities in Sheerness, UK, are being upgraded as part of a regeneration project funded by the UK government, Sheerness Revival.

Swale Borough Council has appointed Alliance Leisure to manage this flagship project that will breathe new life into the town.

The Beachfields site, which is situated near the town centre, waterfront and train station will be reimagined as a hub for leisure, health and community engagement.

Sheppey Leisure Centre will be reconfigured and extended, featuring a new fitness suite, purpose-built studios and upgraded changing facilities.

The GP surgery will be relocated and expanded within the leisure centre, to provide more accessible healthcare services.

A Tag Active zone and dedicated adventure play area will be added, complemented by a café and reception.

Outdoor attractions will include an adventure golf course, an outdoor gym, and enhanced landscaping that connects the leisure centre to the Sheerness train station via improved pathways.

Gas will be replaced with air-source heat pumps, supporting the council’s net-zero targets.

Chris Ames, business development manager, Alliance Leisure, says: “The Beachfields regeneration project is a landmark development that will inspire healthy, active lifestyles while addressing the unique needs of the local population.”

Alliance Leisure is leading the project through the UK Leisure Framework, owned by Denbighshire Leisure (DLL), including Etec as principal contractor, GT3 Architects and Varsity Consulting. A wide network of community partners in the area will be consulted, including Serco Leisure and Swale Community Leisure local schools, colleges and prisons will also be involved.

Overall, the Sheerness Revival project represents a £20 million investment and also includes an extension to Sheppey College and the conversion of garage space into creative workshops to foster arts and enterprise.

Cllr Monique Bonney, Chair of the council’s Economy and Property Committee, says: “Sheerness Revival provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform Beachfields into a modern wellbeing hub that will improve the lives of everyone living and working in the town for generations to come.

“The investment will enhance the lives of residents and the new facilities will also attract visitors from surrounding areas, helping to drive economic growth and sustainability.”

Early enabling works will get underway this month, with project completion expected in spring 2026.
