Parkwood Leisure launches medical memberships in partnership with Health Hero

Parkwood Leisure has announced a partnership with telehealth provider HealthHero, offering its customers access to a new medical membership programme starting in late August.

This new membership tier will provide premium services, including unlimited remote GP consultations available 364 days a year from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Prescriptions, if required, will be issued within two hours of the consultation.

In addition to the medical consultations, the premium membership will feature discounts on one-on-one nutrition sessions, online wellness guidance, and musculoskeletal (MSK) rehabilitation and prehabilitation services provided by social enterprise partner Good Boost.

The initiative will be available across all Parkwood Leisure-operated facilities, including those managed under Lex Leisure, 1Life, Legacy Leisure, and Creating Active Futures brands.

Glen Hall, Managing Director of Parkwood Leisure, emphasised the holistic approach of the company, stating, “We believe in taking care of the whole individual, not just focusing on fitness. Our partnership with HealthHero enables us to offer members convenient and timely medical advice, ensuring they receive the necessary care when needed.”

Sanjay Chada, Strategic Partnership Director at HealthHero, highlighted the company's extensive experience, noting that since its inception in 2019 as part of Medtop Group, HealthHero has facilitated 35 million health consultations in the UK, with five million conducted globally last year. Chada expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Through our collaboration with Parkwood Leisure, we aim to extend the benefits of accessible healthcare to even more people.”

The introduction of this medical membership aligns with a growing trend in the fitness industry, where operators are responding to consumer demand for integrated healthcare services. The strain on public healthcare systems, resulting in longer wait times for doctor appointments, has fueled this demand. For operators, these memberships also present a valuable upselling opportunity.

HealthHero previously collaborated with Everyone Active and industry figure Cheryl Hersey to introduce a similar membership category, Everyone Wellness, in December 2023. This membership includes a HealthHero subscription, and according to Everyone Active’s Duncan Jefford, it has already attracted 25,000 subscribers, with 25% of new members opting for this enhanced wellness package.

The health support service under Everyone Active can be added to existing memberships for £9.99 per month, or as a standalone service for £55.99 monthly. It is also available at a reduced rate of £7.99 per month for individuals with long-term health conditions referred to the operator for increased physical activity. The HealthHero app seamlessly integrates data and appointments with customers’ healthcare providers and can facilitate referrals to doctors, therapists, or urgent care when necessary.

Jefford noted that since the launch of Everyone Wellness, only 14% of appointments required referrals to doctors, indicating the service's effectiveness in alleviating pressure on the healthcare system.
